On Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th, Positive Catastrophe will celebrate the release of its debut recording, Garabatos Volume One (Cuneiform Records), with a two-night stand at New York's Jazz Gallery.

The brainchild of cornetist/composer Taylor Ho Bynum and multi- instrumentalist/composer Abraham Gomez-Delgado, this self-described trans-idiomatic little big band connects the musical dots between intergalactic jazz legend Sun Ra and iconic Latin Jazz innovator Eddie Palmieri.

Founded in 2007, the group brings together some of most adventurous jazz and salsa musicians in New York. These performances will feature Jen Shyu (voice and erhu), Mark Taylor (French horn), Reut Regev (trombone), Jim Hobbs (alto sax), Michal Attias (baritone sax), Pete Fitzpatrick (guitar), Alvaro Benavides (bass) and Tomas Fujiwara (drums).

Time Out New York explains, “Positive Catastrophe pools the resources of two outstanding bandleaders: the ever-searching avant-jazz cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum, and Abraham Gomez-Delgado, head of the eclectic alterna-Latino outfit Zemog El Gallo Bueno…full of swagger and groove, it combines Mingus-esque polyphonic momentum with vibrantly off-kilter world-funk.”
