Magazine's Annual Music Poll Honors Up-and-Coming Pianist in March Issue

Playboy's March “Sex and Music" issue has added a new category to its 48-year-old annual music poll. Pianist Jason Moran has been named the magazine's first-ever Jazz Artist of the Year. Playboy's “Sex and Music" issue also honors 13 music poll winners including Usher, Velvet Revolver and Kanye West (issue hits newsstands on Friday, February 11). Moran's latest release, Same Mother (Blue Note), is a dazzling work of recombinant barrelhouse blues. Since his emergence on the music scene in the late 90s, Moran has become a leading man in modern jazz. Moran and his group the Bandwagon, with bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits, continually challenge the status quo in categories such as improvisation, composition, group concept, repertoire, technique and technological experimentation.

Playboy's Year In Music 2005 feature also includes exclusive accounts of rockers losing their virginity (and what they were listening to when they did!); interviews with Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am, Drive-By Truckers' Patterson Hood, and Velvet Revolver's Scott Weiland; Slash's “Top Five Songs for Sex" and more. Plus: Original Pop Princess Deborah Gibson leaves behind her teen idol image and embraces her grown-up, glamorous side in a stunningly sexy, eight-page nude pictorial.
