On September 27th Ubiquity Records will release a new Platinum Pied Pipers single featuring exclusive extended versions of the bangin’ rap joint Shotgun" with guests Jay Dee, Med (Stones Throw), and Invincible. AA side Fever" features Detroit vocalist Zeno on both new exclusive radio edit and guest remix versions of the summertime soul jam. It’s the first 12" single since the release of their globally acclaimed Triple P album, and none of these mixes are previously available anywhere.
The Platinum Pied Pipers debut album Triple P and subsequent tour dates have earned them praise from all corners of the world. Smashing any current musical pigeon holes the PPP team lead the charge of a new generation of hip hop and soul producers. Their sweet soul music rides on bruising beats and rude bass lines and chunky hip hop tracks bump without all the bling and bragging.
In addition to a single and tour dates, the DJ-half of the PPP duo, Waajeed, has constructed Universal Language, an exclusive mix for the Triple 5 Soul limited edition Sessions mix CD series. Set for release this July Waajeed joins previous Sessions DJs Hollertronix and Prefuse 73 with his mix of re-edits, favorite joints and his own productions. Universal Language will reflect his influences and pays homage to the likes of Kraftwerk and the pioneers of early Detroit techno.
Platinum Pied Pipers are a dynamic musical duo with an essential twist on modern hip-hop and soul. Waajeed (a founding member of Slum Village) and sidekick Saadiq released 2 sold-out singles ("I Got You" featuring Tiombe Lockhart was nominated for song of the year by the BBC Radio 1 Worldwide Show), and performed several highly talked-about live shows including 2 sold-out European Tours before dropping their Triple P debut album. Dates across the USA and Europe followed.
The original tracks flaunted on Triple P map a unique voyage into hip-hop, soul, house, and rock. Special guests rounding out the album are fellow Detroit artists Jay Dee, Invincible and Ta'Raach, UK-based Steve Spacek, LA's Georgia, NYC’s Tiombe Lockhart, and the much-hyped SA-RA Creative Partners.
Waajeed is no stranger to those who know their hip-hop. Teaming up with production guru Jay Dee in the early 1990s, he helped form Slum Village contributing tracks to their Dirty District compilation on Sequence/Kinetic as well as their critically acclaimed Trinity (Past, Present, and Future) album released on Capitol. He also worked with Jay Dee co-producing on the instant classic Welcome 2 Detroit (BBE) as well as co-producing songs with soul sensation Dwele. Waajeed’s Bling 47 label provided the launching pad for The Official Jay Dee Instrumental Series and the first installment of his own BPM" instrumental series. Saadiq is a master keyboard and guitar player, taught by world-renowned songwriter Barrett Strong (worked with Marvin Gaye) and brings the improvisational live feel to PPP’s sound.
