Pandora Competitor Senzari Launches in U.S. and Brazil, Adds Facebook Friend Recommendations

Senzari, a new Pandora competitor, launched in the U.S. and Brazil today with a licensed catalog of 10 million songs from all four major labels and many independents. Unlike Pandora, who has not followed the music service rush to Facebook, Senzari combines the musical choices of the user and their friends, as expressed on Facebook, to their individual choices and the sites algorithm.

“Pandora's biggest complaint, from people that love the service, is that you maybe hear the same songs over and over again," company exec Bill Hajjar told PC Magazine. For now, Senzari is invitation-only. Friends need to invite other Facebook friends, ensuring, according to the company, a “strong musical connection through all the members."

Senzari will aslo launch in Spain later this month and launch mobile apps early next year. While not overtly Latin, the choice of launch countries suggests that the site is targeting a market that may be under-served by Pandora. On deck is a promised hookup with Orkut, the Google owned social network that is #1 in Brazil.
