Opening of the first annual Montreal Musican and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS)
Montreal, Thursday, July 7, 2005 – Today marks the official opening of the first Montreal Musician and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS) presented in collaboration with General Motors of Canada. A new addition to the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal and a North-American 1st, it’ll all be happening over 4 days, from July 7th to 10th, in the Grande-Place of the complexe Desjardins. The non-profit event is entirely free and designed to make music-making in its myriad forms accessible to the widest possible public. Visitors to the salon-type event will have the opportunity to sample the instruments of some 40 exhibitors, to attend workshops and to meet famous musicians. It’s a truly international show, designed to elevate Montreal’s growing status as a musical showcase par excellence.
On the schedule are some 35 activities, each providing an opportunity for interaction between the public and amateur and professional musicians; manufacturers of musical instruments, equipment and accessories; and distributors and retailers. The event will also provide opportunity to sample the latest technological innovations in the world of music, all in a propitiously relaxed party environment.
There will be at least 40 exhibitors’ stands set up in the Grande-Place of the complexe Desjardins. Visitors will be able to meet musicians of international renown, participate in guitar jams (with Paul Deslauriers) and percussion jams (open to all); take an accelerated guitar course with René Gilbert; stop by the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, from July 4 to 6 in the SDM Park; or visit the exhibit of the works of album designer Gary Burden, presented by Domtar. There will also be the MMMIS Contest, where entrants could win over $6,500 in instruments and accessories. An auction for the MMMIS will also take place, on eBay at: http://members.ebay.ca/aboutme/simmm-mmmis. Funds collected will be put to the service of non-profit organizations MMMIS and Young Musicians of the World.
