New York Times Subscribers Now Get Free Spotify Premium

On-demand music streamers are all pretty much stuck charging $/€/£ 9.99- much to there detriment, according to MIDiA's Mark Mulligan. So to attract new customers, they are constantly experimenting with discounts, pricing and partnerships like the one that Spotify and the New York Times announced today.

The New York Times announced today that new digital All Access subscribers will a free Spotify Premium account. For $5 a week, subscribers will receive unlimited access to NYTimes.com  plus unlimited access to Spotify.  At 9.99 per month, that's a $120 per year savings on Spotify.

“News and music have gone hand-in-hand since the early days of radio, and because personalization and curation are central to what both The Times and Spotify do so well, we created an experience for Times readers that gives them access to all the news and all the music that they want in one premier subscription,”  said Meredith Kopit Levien, executive vice president and chief revenue officer, The New York Times Company.

The New York Times also recently launched a newsletter for music fans that is compendium of their pop and jazz with reviews, interviews, podcasts called Louder.

The special offer requires a one-year commitment and is available for a limited time to U.S. residents who are not current subscribers to The New York Times or Spotify Premium. Subscriptions are available at nytimes.com/spotify.
