New Orleans' Jazz Fest Wraps up Another Stellar Run

NEW ORLEANS After two weekends of sublime and riotous roots music from more than 400 national and regional acts, the city's 41st Jazz & Heritage Festival ended its run Sunday.

Though one headliner was a no-show (Aretha Franklin) and opening day was plagued by thunderstorms and heavy rains, the crowds appeared to be in keeping with previous seven-day post-Katrina gatherings, which have ranged from 400,000 to 450,000. (Official figures will be released in a few days.)

Not even the week's ever-worsening news of the oil-rig disaster off the nearby coast could disrupt the party-on spirit. Some highlights:
