Jazz great Steve Lacy will be remembered at a memorial concert October 12 at New England Conservatory, the only school where he taught his inimitable brand of music-making. The soprano saxophonist who died June 4 spent his last two years working with conservatory students and serving as inspiration for the entire NEC community. The concert will take place at NEC's Jordan Hall at 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Among the Lacy compositions on the program are Flakes, Tina's Tune, If Life Were Easy, Life on its Way, Art, Resurrection, and Le Jardin. Monk pieces include 'Round Midnight" and Misterioso" (in an arrangement by Jazz department chairman Ken Schaphorst). Tribute works include Bob Moses' Spacey for Lacy," Dan Blake's Confines" and Jorrit Dijkstra's Lace."
