MTV NEWS Asks: “Could It Be That Broadway Has Finally Caught Up To Your iPod?""With so-called 'rock musicals' gaining attention, is theater finally catching up to the street?" 'Passing Strange,' 'In The Heights' Bring Rock And Hip-Hop To Broadway'

Earlier this week, MTV NEWS aired a segment which focused on the next generation of Broadway music consumers, and asked the question: “Could it be that Broadway has finally caught up to your iPod?"

Ghostlight Records aims to answer that question with the upcoming releases of 'In The Heights' and 'Passing Strange' OCRs. Ghostlight is committed to bringing the music of the 'New Broadway' to a contemporary audience, using modern technology, innovative marketing and artist involvement. Utilizing music videos, digital downloads and other aggressive strategies new to the Broadway arena, Ghostlight continues to be on the vanguard of interacting with the next generation of Broadway music fans.

PASSING STRANGE - May 27th Digital Release:
The acclaimed rock musical PASSING STRANGE will be the first-ever Broadway show to get a 'Digital Exclusive Release' via iTunes, as Ghostlight Records confirms a May 27th download date for the Original Cast Recording. Brick and Mortar retail availability is planned for July. The Original Cast Album of the celebrated production was recorded in front of a live audience, in a dynamic recording session on stage at the Belasco Theatre. Read the VARIETY write-up. PASSING STRANGE has been nominated for 7 Tony Awards, including BEST MUSICAL, and Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics). Passing Strange has won the NY DRAMA CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD for Best Musical.

IN THE HEIGHTS - June 3rd Release:
A World Premiere video for showstopper '96,000' serves as a dynamic preview of the 'In The Heights' Original Broadway Cast recording. Nominated for 13 TONY Awards -- including Best Musical and Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) -- 'In The Heights' features Latin, Salsa and Hip-Hop-infused music, conceived and written by emerging superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda. Ghostlight Records will release the OCR on June 3rd, as a 23-track, two-CD package, complete with a 68-page booklet containing cast photos and song lyrics. The exclusive video was shot by Broadway.com: Conceived and written by emerging superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda, the album was Produced by Andres Levin and Kurt Deutsch. 'In The Heights' has been nominated for 13 Tony Awards, including BEST MUSICAL, and Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics).
