As a part of Thirsty Ear Recordings' two week celebration of jazz at the Stone in New York City, titled “NY NOW!" and curated by label president Peter Gordon, the Matthew Shipp Trio will be performing music from Matthew Shipp's 2011 release “Art of the Improviser," with Michael Bisio on bass and Whit Dickey on drums.

Art of the Improviser, released February 22, 2011, has received unprecedented coverage and proven itself as one of the most compelling and monumental jazz recordings in recent times. Honoring Matthew's prolific and genre-defying career, “Art of the Improviser is a monumental work that befits a musician who deserves a place of choice in the jazz piano pantheon" (Downbeat).

On Friday October 7 and Saturday October 8, the Matthew Shipp Trio will be playing music from Art of the Improviser, celebrating its extraordinary success, and music from their upcoming studio album Elastic Aspects.

The shows will be looking forward while reflecting upon Shipp's prolific career and the past year in jazz, and is without a doubt not an event to miss.
