Cornelia Street Cafe presents Gnu Vox" A New Vocal Series produced by David Devoe
Thursday, April 14 Marguerite Juenemann Trio
Marguerite Juenemann - Vocals, Ben Monder - Bass, Ben Street - Bass
Sets at 8:30 - 10:00 PM
Marguerite Juenemann is a consummate vocalist, improviser, and arranger who is widely acclaimed in the US, Europe and Asia. She has performed with jazz luminaries Benny Goodman, Clark Terry, Teddy Wilson, Michael Brecker, Richard Davis and Art Lande. Marguerite has been featured at historic venues such as Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, Playboy Jazz Festival, Aurex Jazz Festival and clubs including Duke's Place, 606, and Lush Life. Before embarking on a solo career, Marguerite was a founding member of the Grammy-nominated vocal group, Rare Silk. Her rich timbre, captivating melodic interpretations, and exciting rhythmic ideas put her in the upper echelon of jazz singers working today. This concert will commemorate a 10 year reunion of these three fine musicians working together. Both Monder and Street were on Marguerite's first CD, 'By Whose Standards' (Juenetunes) which received exceptional critical praise. Tune choices for the evening will include some obscure standard material by composers such as Horace Silver, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, and some of Ben Street's favorite Cole Porter and Gershwin selections, along with transcriptions not usually offered by vocalists.
