The Mansfieldians, directed by Sheryl Monkelien, and the Mansfield University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Galloway, will join forces for a concert on Friday October 17 at 8 pm in the Steadman Theatre.
Also performing on the program will be MU faculty member, saxophonist Kevin Hoferer. Hoferer teaches jazz improvisation and directs the MU Jazz Combo and the newly formed MU Jazz Lab Band. This will mark the second time in recent years that he has been a soloist with the Jazz Ensemble.
Hoferer's solo set will include two charts: Bob Mintzer’s funk original '8th Avenue March' and Bob Berg’s jazz classic 'Friday Night at the Cadillac Club'. He will also join the Mansfieldians for the Sonny Rollins standard 'Tenor Madness'.
The Mansfieldians will be offering 'Come Rain or Come Shine' with soloist Rachel Sherman, 'The Grass Grows Greener' featuring Josh Gresko, 'Just The Way You Are' with vocal soloists Alison Yuravich and Scott Test and 'Like Someone In Love' with Nick Webb in the solo spot.
