Award Winning Jazz Vocalist Nicole Henry
in Their 20th Anniversary Season Line-Up
On Thursday, April 20, from 7:00 - 10:00 PM, jazz songstress Nicole Henry will perform for the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild in Pittsburgh's downtown Omni William Penn Hotel as part of their 20th Anniversary Season schedule. Recently performing at the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival and for the Central New York Jazz Foundation, Henry will perform songs from her award winning and best- selling CDs, “Teach Me Tonight" and “The Nearness of You."
Described by the Japan Times as “one of the most impressive live performers to polish up The Great American Songbook," Nicole Henry's voice and presence continues to gain fans around the world. Cadence Magazine titled her “a superb vocal thespian." She's toured Mexico, London, Korea, the Caribbean, Japan and the U.S., including such venues as the Rainbow Room with the Cab Calloway Orchestra, the Lincoln Center with the Juilliard Jazz Octet and the Dakota Jazz Bar in Minneapolis. Henry has performed with such greats as Kenny Werner, Nicholas Peyton, Eric Alexander, Duffy Jackson, Tom Scott, Ira Sullivan and Johnny O'Neal and shared concert stages with the Rippington's, Isaac Hayes, Roberta Flack, Patti LaBelle, Tower of Power and many more. Henry's most recent accolades include “Best Vocal Jazz Album - 2005" by HMV Japan for her CD with the Eddie Higgins Trio, Teach Me Tonight.
For two decades, MCG Jazz has produced over 1,200 concerts and 40 recordings including three GRAMMY Award winning albums with artists such as Nancy Wilson, Paquito D'Rivera and The Count Basie Orchestra. Embracing the rich tradition of jazz masters, MCG Jazz will recognize its 20th Anniversary with a year-long milestone celebration dedicated to Dr. Billy Taylor. Other performers include Maria Schneider, Dave Brubeck and more. Henry's performance comes as she completes the recording of her upcoming CD project in which she will continue her unique interpretations of classic jazz standards as well as introduce original material.
