Thursday, December 8
Acclaimed Los Angeles-based pianist/composer/arranger Billy Childs has been nominated for four Grammy Awards.

“Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group" [for Lyric]

“Best Instrumental Composition" [for “Into The Light," featured on Lyric]

“Best Instrumental Arrangement" [for “Scarborough Faire," featured on Lyric]

“Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist" [for Chris Botti's “What Are You Doing For The Rest of Your Life"]

The recipient of four previous Grammy nominations (this recent news brings his nominations total to eight), the news came as a wonderful surprise to Childs, who was in New York City, performing with Chris Botti. “What a great surprise to wake up to this wonderful news about these nominations. I'm very honored and gratified. 'Lyric' was definitely a labor of love and it's great to recognized and acknowledged for something like this."

Since the album's release in September, “Lyric" (released through ArtistShare, who also had Grammy success with last year's “Concert In The Garden" by Childs' longtime friend, Maria Schneider) has received press accolades around the world, and this is the fitting happy ending to one of the pianist's best years, personally and professionally.

Some recent press quotes:

“Superbly executed throughout"--Ray Comiskey, Irish Times (Dublin)

“There seems to be a rebirth of the jazz chamber music genre and I think this is one of the very best... The eight originals plus his special arrangement of 'Scarborough Faire' are full of lovely tunes, rich harmonies and catchy rhythms. His pianistic virtuosity ties it all together"--John Sunier, Audiophile Audition

“Pianist Billy Childs is one of the most talented, committed musicians in the jazz world today"--Eddie Becton, All About Jazz Los Angeles

Lyric is an album that spans the globe and travels through the ages.... deeply intelligent and often profoundly moving"--Daniel Spicer, One Final Note

“His musical masterpiece.... a bountiful feast with something to satisfy everybody"--Bob Morello, Post-Gazette (Boston)
