Lyricist/singer Lorraine Feather has posted her newest video, “Remembering to Breathe," on her website.
“Remembering to Breathe” was written by Feather and composer Bill Elliott, for Feather’s 2005 release Dooji Wooji. The video was directed by Oakland videographer Steve Davy, with art direction by Don Livoni. The song is about a dance class of young girls, but also about anyone pursuing something difficult but rewarding. The video features a class of young ballet students, their teacher (played by Gianna Davy, the videographer’s ballerina daughter), an older woman studying for a degree (played by Joyce Mueller, Davy’s 83-year-old mother), and Feather.
Since the release of her 2001 album New York City Drag, Lorraine Feather has been creating an independently produced video for each project, with the help of artists in and around the San Francisco area. At a friend’s suggestion, she sent these “art projects” to Los Angeles’s educational cable station LA36; they suggested that she put together a video show, which she did. The second episode of Jazz on Video will air in the fall of 2005, featuring The Spitball Story, produced by Jean Bach—Bach produced the Oscar-nominated documentary A Great Day in Harlem—as well as “Remembering to Breathe.”
