I recently had the great pleasure of hanging out with the new Gary Burton Quartet in support of their recording. To prepare for the video shoot and interview, I listened to the new CD at least five times straight through and the music captured on Common Ground was even better than I expected. The band of guitarist Julian Lage, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Antonio Sanchez are a tight group and showcase their compositional prowess as well as their musical chops. Gary is simply amazing and playing at the top of his art. Can a guy actually get better and better with age? If the guy is Gary Burton, then the answer is a resounding YES!
