(Brooklyn, NY) Friday, June 6, 2008, 8:00 p.m. Leanne Darling CD release party to be held at the Brooklyn Conservatory Concert Hall at 58 Seventh Ave. (corner of 7th Ave. and Lincoln Pl.), Park Slope, Brooklyn. Leanne Darling is a looping/sampling specialist, creating multilayered solo viola music with a soulful edge, mixing modern classical and the blues with a middle eastern flavor. Spiral, is the result of a wave of inspiration over four years that drew her away from her career as an orchestral musician to one of only a handful of jazz/world music violists performing today.

The music is a culmination of her classical foundation and her study of jazz and Arabic music on the viola. Leanne uses a Boomerang 'phrase sampler' digital looper, recording small phrases that 'loop' (play continuously) and become the rhythm/harmony of her compositions. “Leanne has composed the music to work brilliantly with the way she uses the loops, creating a continuous multi-layer sound that shifts and evolves in a very melodic, organic way.... this music is extremely creative, intelligent and soulful." (Brian Prunka, oudist, jazz guitarist).

She will perform a solo viola set with loops, and for the second set she will be joined by special guests Helen Yee, violin; Martha Colby, cello; Danny Zanker, bass; David Braham, keyboard; Wayne Denton, drums; and Brian Prunka, oud, performing her compositions for Arabic ensemble, jazz string trio and jazz quartet.
