BET JAZZ Presents SOUNDS OF HARLEM: A SALUTE TO MUSIC

Harlem’s musical history chronicled in television special

June 24, 2005 (Harlem, USA) – Celebrating June as Black Music Month, BET Jazz is broadcasting Sounds of Harlem -- a salute to the musical legacy of New York’s culturally rich community of Harlem -- for the last time on SUNDAY JUNE 26 at 11 a.m., 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Premiered on BET Jazz on June 12, Sounds of Harlem is a one-hour look at the past, present, and future contributions that Harlem has made, and makes, to the foundation of American entertainment.

The broadcast features commentary from U.S. Congressman Charles B. Rangel, Apollo Theatre restorer Percy E. Sutton, plus Bill Cosby, Maya Angelou, Wynton Marsalis, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Ed Bradley, Harry Smith, Arthur Mitchell, Joe Sample, Tamara Tunie, Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo O’Farrill and others. Sounds of Harlem also shows a touching tribute to the late, legendary Tito Puente, in which his children, friends, and band members reunite for a dynamic “jam session.”

Sounds of Harlem airs for the last time on SUNDAY, JUNE 26 at 11 a.m., 7 p.m., 1 a.m. Viewers are highly encouraged to comment on the program by e-mailing [email protected] or by calling (202) 608-2006.
