Detroit born alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett is simply one of the greatest alto saxophone players alive today.
Renowned for his expressiveness and imagination he has topped readers polls, hot lists, garnered four star reviews and has performed and recorded with such legends as Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw and The Duke Ellington Orchestra.
Garrett's style is influenced by his experience in the great bands he played with early in his career. His work in fusion and hip-hop push the borders of jazz music while his more traditional jazz work pays homage to the great artists of the past while at the same time he makes his own contributions to the music. He is recognized as being one of the last great musicians to work his way up the ranks in the bands of other great musicians and his work with those bands contributed largely to his success.
The LA Times called him “One of the finest jazz saxophonists around" and the Washington Post said “Someone should post a storm warning prior to a Kenny Garrett concert".
