J.B.'s bassist Bertand Odom dead at 72

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Bertrand Odom, a bass guitar player in the James Brown Band for 40 years, died Tuesday, August 17, his sister, Vernetta Greene, said. He was 72.

Greene said her brother suffered from kidney failure.

Odom, a Monroe County, Ala., native who had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., retired from the famous band in 1998.
