Chicago, IL - One of Chicago's busiest and most sought after musicians, Orbert Davis, will perform with his quintet on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Kavehaz in Chelsea. Davis' appearance at this Eastern European NYC jazz club piggybacks off his participation in this year's International Association of Jazz Educators Conference (IAJE) at the Hilton New York, where he will conduct two clinics entitled “Connecting with Kids in the Classroom" and “Connecting with Kids in Concert." Davis, also a educator and jazz historian, has recorded over 3000 national television and radio commercials and numerous record projects for such notable artists as Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Kurt Elling, and Oscar Lopez to name a few. He was winner of the 1995 Cognac Hennessy National Jazz Search (held at New York's 'Bottom Line'), was chosen one of Chicago Tribune's “1995 Arts People of the Year" and was named “Y2k Best Trumpeter in Chicago" and “Chicagoan of the Year 2002" by Chicago magazine.

Davis debuted his critically acclaimed 55-piece, third stream jazz orchestra “Chicago Jazz Philharmonic", to rave reviews in September 2004, headlining the Chicago Jazz Festival. Following a “back by popular demand" performance in August 2005 on the Pritzker Pavilion stage at Chicago's Millennium Park, Orbert's new orchestra is set to perform at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on March 4 of this year. He has shared the stage with such notables as Wynton Marsalis, TS Monk, Stevie Wonder, Dr. John, Jon Faddis, Kurt Elling, Ernie Watts, Ramsey Lewis, Grover Washington Jr. and The Smithsonian Masterworks Jazz Orchestra.

Davis has a Bachelors degree in trumpet performance from DePaul University and a Masters degree in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University. He is currently co-founder and Executive Director of MusicAlive, a comprehensive music curriculum for at-risk youth.

Orbert other production credits include projects for Atlantic, Capitol, CBS, Epic, MCA and the Warner Brothers record labels; arrangements and on-camera performances for feature films such as “A League of Their Own" starring Tom Hanks, Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell and “The Babe", starring John Goodman, both for Columbia Pictures. As Jazz Consultant to director Sam Mendes for the DreamWorks Pictures feature film release “Road to Perdition" starring Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, Orbert also arranged music and performed on-camera in a prominent scene.

Orbert's latest and third CD entitled Blue Notes (3Sixteen Records), is the follow-up to his critically acclaimed Priority, which garnered an Los Angeles Times 4-star review, hit Top-50 “most played on national radio" jazz CDs in 2002 and was named Top-10 best jazz CDs in 2002 by the Chicago Tribune.
