The first time the jazz-and-poetry ensemble Creative Tradition was scheduled to play Hackley Public Library, there was a snowstorm so severe it postponed the performance for two and a half weeks.
This time the Detroit-based ensemble visits, a different kind of deluge is in store.
Look for a storm of memories, organized around the seminal African-American literary figure Paul Laurence Dunbar.
The ensemble's Paul Laurence Dunbar Project, a celebration of Black History Month, will feature the spoken word performance of poet Wardell Montgomery Jr. and the improvised music of tenor saxophonist Keith Gamble. There will be tribute pieces to Dunbar.
The group will perform Tuesday February 3 at Hackley Public Library, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be no charge for admission to the program, but seating will be limited.
