Jazz Pianist and Composer Weldon Irvine Dead from Gunshot Wound to Head Via Suicide

Weldon Irvine, jazz composer and pianist who worked and composed music which included Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, died from a gunshot wound to the head one day this week. Funeral Services to be held at J. Foster Phillips funeral home on Linden Boulevard, in Queens on Sunday, April 28th, 2002. Weldon was made famous by his tune: “Young, Gifted & Black", sung by Nina Simone. Body viewing is a 4:00pm and 8:00pm.
