On Thursday, November 9, 2006, Benny Powell, one of the most versatile trombonists and jazz lecturers on the contemporary music scene, will be the special guest of the Harlem Speaks The free Harlem Speaks series is in part supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and is produced by the Jazz Museum in Harlem's Executive Director, Loren Schoenberg, Co-Director Christian McBride, and Greg Thomas Associates. The series occurs at the offices of the Jazz Museum in Harlem, located at 104 East 126th Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Having earned his performance stripes in straight-ahead style while turning on to the mid-80s hip hop sounds of Rakim and LL Cool J, horn dynamo Russell Gunn inventively marries the rhythmic music of his youth with a head-bopping combination of brass-driven jazz, blues, funk, and anything else he might be into on a particular day. See and hear him with a small ensemble for the museum's Harlem in the Himalayas Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of the performance and include admission to the Museum's galleries. Box Office:
