Pittsfield CityJazz Festival Announces Columbus Weekend Series of Regional Performers in Jazz Around Town
Pittsfield, MA, Sept. 25, 2008 The fourth annual Pittsfield CityJazz Festival today announced its Columbus Weekend series of performances featuring musicians based in and around the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. From Oct. 10-12, a dozen restaurants and lounges throughout the city will be presenting a cross section of instrumentalists and vocalists, typically duos and small ensembles. All are free, and provide the entre to the Festivals expanded 10-day run, Oct. 10-19.
The Festival earlier announced concert performances starting Oct. 15, including Noah Baerman, Evan Lurie, The New Black Eagle Jazz Band with the debut of the Pittsfield CityJazz Youth Orchestra, vocalists Teri Roiger and Ron Gill, and a concluding concert on Oct. 19 with Jazz organist Barbara Dennerlein. Tickets are now on sale for those performances at TheColonialTheatre.org.
In previous years, Jazz Around Town had been a component of a single weekend festival, but audiences felt stretched between the free regional performers and the ticketed concerts by touring acts. We needed to provide more opportunities for people to hear music, rather than forcing them to make a choice. The additional weekend accomplishes that goal, said Festival chairman Edward Bride.
Schedule and pricing for the headline concerts is available at PittsfieldCityJazz.org.
