Jay Collins is a player-in-demand. His dynamic style on sax, flute and vocals has taken him around the world, touring with the Allman Brothers Band and on recordings with jazz greats like Andrew Hill. Now fronting his own band, the Jay Collins Band, he will be appearing for one set only on Monday, April 18th, at Piano’s in New York City.

The Jay Collins Band is a five-member combo that uses New Orleans-style funk, classic jazz, poetry, and blues in the service of getting down. Jay belts out the songs, then blows up a storm on sax and flute, while the band cooks right along with maturity and taste. There is also plenty of room for jamming, with the indomitable Dred Scott on keyboards leading a rhythm section of two drummers and a bass.

Jay Collins’ latest recording, “Poem for You Today”, is on Hipbone Records and will be released in April 2005.

Piano’s 158 Ludlow Street New York, NY Phone: 212.505.3733 1 set at 9pm tickets: $7.00
