Naylor’s teacher and friend Faith Winthrop celebrates 77th birthday by opening the show
San Francisco-based vocalist Jacqui Naylor will perform at the Herbst Theatre, 401 Van Ness Avenue, on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 8:00pm. Tickets range from $20 - $36.
This special concert event features Jacqui Naylor celebrating the release of her seventh recording, You Don't Know Jacq, with those who do. Joined by friends, family, and fans in her hometown of San Francisco, Naylor will sing songs from her new CD as well as those most requested by fans via her web site.
You Don't Know Jacq (November 4/Ruby Star – Ryko WEA) features new arrangements of select songs from Jacqui’s previous albums, as well as completely new material including the first single “Celebrate Early and Often.” “Jacqui Naylor can serve up classic covers with the best of them, deliver top-drawer originals and inspire with the musical marriage of jazz and rock tunes she calls ‘acoustic smashing.’” JazzTimes
“Both this show and You Don’t Know Jacq are all about community,” says Jacqui. Her voice teacher and friend of many years, Faith Winthrop, will open the show (a fitting honor for her 77th birthday). Winthrop has graced audiences around the world with her remarkably sensitive voice and, in addition to Naylor, has coached Al Jarreau, Holly Near, Paula West, LaVay Smith and more. “Faith’s style and manner are regal…she draws a listener into the song,” wrote the late Phil Elwood of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Additionally, Naylor’s photographer and friend, Thomas Heinser, will show his work in the grand lobby of the Herbst Theatre, and a room in the venue will be open for those in the Buddhist community who wish to join Naylor for a chanting session before the performance.
