Concert promoters are ready to tighten their aim at the public's thinning wallets.

Amid a struggling economy and a concert festival market that saw attendance dips in 2008, Coachella promoter Goldenvoice will offer fans the option to purchase tickets under a layaway plan for the upcoming April fest, according to a report in Monday's USA Today by Edna Gundersen. Fans will now have the option to pay smaller chunks in multiple stages.

John Updike Prize-Winning Writer Dies

John Updike, the Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, prolific man of letters and erudite chronicler of sex, divorce and other adventures in the postwar prime of the American empire, died today at age 76.

Updike, a resident of Beverly Farms, Mass., died of lung cancer, according to a statement from his publisher, Alfred A. Knopf.
