Benjamin Garcia
Ben is a bass player from Mexico City with an extensive career in the international music jazz scene.
He has performed and recorded with countless local and international artists such as Silvana Estrada, Magos Herrera, Melissa Aldana, Michael Mayo, Jonathan Barber, Mike Moreno, Vinicius Gomes, Neal Smith, Alex Kautz, Fabio Gouvea, Gustavo Nandayapa, Diego Franco, Luis Nacht, Albert Vila and Erik Deutch.
His musical versatility in both upright and electric bass led him to be one of the most requested bass players in Mexico City, touring extensively through Mexico in jazz venues and renowned International Festivals like “Riviera Maya Jazz Fest,” “Festival Internacional Cervantino” and “Vive Latino” to name a few. Benjamín has also toured in Spain, Colombia and Costa Rica.
He released his first album “Cíclico,” with original music in 2018 leading a contemporary/avant-garde quintet with Jacob Wick on trumpet, Diego Franco on tenor saxophone, Brian Allen on trombone and Gustavo Nandayapa on drums.

If one were to use this recording for a blindfold test, it would be interesting to see what emerged. Pianist (composer?) has an affinity for minor harmonies and repeated figures. Somewhere, deep in the background, there are echoes of Maiden Voyage (Blue Note, 1965). Band is all good players, post-bop, for sure.
