No invention since the phonograph more dramatically affected how popular music is made than Fender guitars, arriving as they did with the birth of rock 'n' roll. Buddy Holly was an early Fender convert; Jimi Hendrix used the Stratocaster to revolutionize the world of rock guitar playing.

Bon Jovi Set for First Jazz Fest Appearance New Orleans

Bon Jovi has been added to the lineup of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this spring. The rock act will make its first appearance at the festival on May 2.

Bon Jovi joins previously announced performers Aretha Franklin, Dave Matthews Band, Wilco, James Taylor, Wynton Marsalis, Kings Of Leon, Tony Bennett, the Neville Brothers and Sugarland. Another significant addition will be announced in the coming week, according to organizers.

At a recent 70th-anniversary reception for Blue Note Records at Dizzys Club Coca-Cola, the alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson played his trademark hit, “Alligator Boogaloo," from 1967.

Milk Studios Gone Hollywood The firm, which is expanding from New York, will spend millions to upgrade a 46,000-square-foot, half-century-old industrial building on Cahuenga Boulevard.
