Radio Broadcaster Paul Harvey Dies

Paul Harvey, 90, a Chicago-based radio broadcaster whose authoritative baritone voice and distinctive staccato delivery attracted millions of daily listeners for more than half a century, died Feb. 28 in Phoenix. A spokesman for ABC Radio Network told the Associatd Press that Mr. Harvey died at his winter home, surrounded by family. No cause of death was immediately available. Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson will receive the ASCAP Founders Award during performing rights org's 26th annual Pop Music Awards on April 22 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. The songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed pop songs of 2008 will also be honored at the ceremony.

Carrey, Gyllenhaal do Damn Yankees

New Line Cinema is playing ball with Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal on Damn Yankees, attaching both actors to star in a contemporized film transfer of the classic musical.

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are set to write the script. The musical is being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo behind New Line's musical Hairspray; a sequel to that film is in the works.

Hollywood’s “Golden Age” was, of course, black and white. What gave the pre-World War II talkies their “color” was their ornate, even gaudy, music.
