Variety to Start Charging for Online Access

Less than three years after opening up its website for free, Hollywood trade paper Variety is closing it back down to admit subscribers only.

Starting early next year, most content on Variety.com will be available only to those who subscribe to the Daily Variety newspaper or weekly Variety magazine, or those who pay for a digital subscription. Leonard Cohen Collapses Onstage

The singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen is recovering after collapsing onstage in Spain.

Mr. Cohen fainted during a performance of his song Bird on the Wire in Valencia on Friday night, The Times of London reported. The concert was stopped, and Mr. Cohen, who turns 75 on Monday, was taken to a hospital. He was released early on Saturday after suffering from a stomach complaint, tour promoters said.

Arthur Ferrante Half of the Popular Piano Duo Ferrante and Teicher Dies

Their lush orchestral recordings of 1960s movie themes propelled them to popular and commercial success. The classically trained pair met at the Juilliard School in New York.

Over the course of their 40-year partnership, Arthur Ferrante and Lou Teicher recorded 150 albums, racking up 22 gold and platinum records and selling 90 million records worldwide, and performed 5,200 concerts before retiring in 1989.

Internet 'Net Neutrality' Endorsed by FCC Chief

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission today called for more aggressive action to keep online traffic moving freely, proposing two new government policies to prevent telecommunications companies from restricting websites and other services on the Internet.
