Earlier this year the great Brazilian artist Gilberto Gil toured the United States performing what he referred to at UCLA's Royce Hall as a “very simple concert": vocals, cello and two guitars.

Gil's contemporary Sergio Mendes takes the opposite tack on his new album, which features busy interpretations of tunes by Gil, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jorge Ben Jor and other Brazilian songwriters. Apple quietly shut down Lala on Tuesday. It acquired the online-music service last year. Gives no indication of plans.

When visitors and members attempted to access Lala on Tuesday, they found a placeholder page, saying, “The Lala service has been discontinued as of May 31st, 2010." Ali Ollie Woodson, Singer in Temptations Dies

Ali Ollie Woodson, who led the Motown quintet the Temptations in the 1980s and 90s and helped restore it to hit-making glory with songs like Treat Her Like a Lady, died on Sunday in Los Angeles. He was 58.

The Temptations: Theo Peoples, Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, and Ali-Ollie Woodson.
