Is iTunes Transitioning to the Cloud?

Is iTunes Transitioning to the Cloud?

Source: HypeBot

Is iTunes slowly transitioning from an application that has to be downloaded to a web based storefront?

In November, iTunes launched the web based iTunes preview and now they've added song previews to the site. Apple is using Quicktime to offer song samples encoded at 44.1 AAC 300+ kbits per second.

For now at least, you can only access iTunes Preview through the iTunes Charts on Apple's website or via any link generated from the iTunes Store's copy link feature. ...

Netgear's New Products Take Aim at Home Media Challenges

Netgear's New Products Take Aim at Home Media Challenges

Source: PC Magazine

A new media server, a media player, a switch, two powerline adapters, and three routers are among Netgear's CES 2010 products. Networking was complicated (and slow) enough when people were just sending around text and non-moving images, so the question of what to do with today's heavy-duty (and high-definition) content is one that just won't go away. Netgear is attempting to answer it with the slate of products it announced at its press conference today as part of the 2010 ...

Monster Continues to Move Way Past Cables

Monster may have gotten its start manufacturing cables, but in the past couple of years, the company has expanded its offerings, most notably with its earphone and headphone lines. Technology CES: Music Mastermind proposes a 21st century musical instrument

CES isn't usually a place for mulling existential questions, but here's a couple for you: What constitutes a musical instrument, and what does it mean to be a musician? I couldn't help wondering about that after seeing a demo of a prototype from Music Mastermind, a two-year-old Calabasas-based start-up founded by a former major-label executive and a Wall Street trader. MMM is developing a music-creation tool that erases the line ...

A Riff Between Google and Lala? Maybe Not...

Source: HypeBot

On Monday, Digital Music News lead with an investigative piece, “Suddenly, Google Focusing Music Results On MySpace". DMN content partner paidContent also featured the post.

A sample of Google music searches had apparently shown many more results pointing to MySpace Music than towards Lala, which was recently purchased by Apple. The reason for the emphasis on MySpace, DMN declared, was that that Google “was hardly thrilled to find its marquee music search partner acquired by Apple". As proof, editor Paul ...

MySpace Has Started Putting Ads Where imeem Playlists Used to be

Source: HypeBot

WIRED blogger Eliot Van Buskirk was more than a bit surprised to learn that an imeem playlist that he'd created on his sadly defunct Listening Post blog had become a MySpace web ad. (Click on image from the Wired post to enlarge.) Other bloggers and web sites are reporting similar hijackings.

Former imeem users were already pissed off that their playlists disappeared when MySpace bought the struggling site. But ads? And without warning? In case you wanted to give the ...
