Dan Seals Part of Pop Duo Dies

Dan Seals, who was England Dan in the pop duo England Dan and John Ford Coley and later had a successful country career, has died of complications from cancer. He was 61.

Longtime manager Tony Gottlieb said Seals, diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago, died Wednesday night at his daughter's home in Nashville.

Uriel Jones Motown Drummer Dies

Uriel Jones, a drummer with the Funk Brothers, the studio musicians at Motown Records who played without credit on virtually every hit during that label’s heyday in the 1960s, died on Tuesday in Dearborn, Mich. He was 74.

The cause was complications of a recent heart attack, his sister-in- law Leslie Coleman said.

New Orleans blues singer-pianist Eddie Bo, who worked with musicians such as Irma Thomas and Art Neville, has died of a heart attack. He was 79. His death was confirmed Friday by his close friend and booking agent, Karen Hamilton. Hamilton said Eddie Bo, whose real name was Edwin Joseph Bocage, had a “sudden, massive heart attack" while out of town Wednesday. She said he “went very quickly, very peacefully." Your 16 Track or Your Life! Robbers broke into a Van Nuys home early this morning and stole thousands of dollars' worth of studio recording equipment, Los Angeles police said.

Dorothea Holt Redmond broke ground in 1938 as the first woman to invade the “heretofore exclusively male field” of motion-picture production design, at David O. Selznick’s studio, The Times reported that year. She came to be regarded as one of the most talented illustrators in the industry. Redmond worked on seven Hitchcock films, as well as others.

Kalman Bloch Clarinetist for L.A. Philharmonic

Kalman Bloch, 95, principal clarinetist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic for nearly 45 years, died March 12 at his home in Los Angeles, according to his daughter, Michele Zukovsky, who is now one of the orchestra's co-principal clarinetists.

Bloch was born in New York on May 30, 1913, and attended Columbia College. He studied clarinet with Simeon Bellison, a legendary figure with the New York Philharmonic.
