Vinyl Revival: Reissues from Blue Note's Heyday

Vinyl Revival: Reissues from Blue Note's Heyday

Source: AAJ Staff

THERE are two kinds of obsessive record collectors: those who buy original pressings of rare old LPs because they're rare and old, and those who buy them because they sound good. In the jazz world one record label has attained near-mystical status among the antiquarians and the audiophiles: Blue Note, especially the albums released in its heyday, from 1955 to '67. Mint-condition Blue Notes from that era sell in specialty stores and online auctions for hundreds of dollars, and in ...

The Paradox of Music: Why More is Less

Source: HypeBot

May 12th. That's the day that I published my first thoughts on how choice theory and the ideas of Psychologist Barry Schwartz could be applied to the current state of digital music. Nearly four months later, I'm proud to say that I followed my curiosity to it's end and was able to write three essays on the subject; ones that I hope you enjoyed. This post is by cultural critic and essayist Eric Casero.

We are all well aware by this point in time that the music industry is undergoing a process of massive change.  As popular music continues to evolve and change as a form (or series of forms), technological evolution continues to alter the ways in which we consume music.

Mitch Miller: Jazz Friend or Foe?

Mitch Miller: Jazz Friend or Foe?

Source: JazzWax by Marc Myers

Few figures in jazz history were more enigmatic than Mitch Miller. Though most Miller tributes yesterday and today note that his vision and taste as a Columbia record producer and performer appealed most to those ...
