Were Major Labels Right to Stay Away from the Cloud ... and Should We Too?
Source:
HypeBot
David Greenberg, Cyde Smith and I recently shared our thoughts on the launch of cloud music services from Amazon and Google. Today, Robin Davey (@mr_robin_davey), a musician, artist and Head of Music & Film Development at GROWVision Media weighs in. With the recent launch of Amazon and Google's music in the cloud services, the press embraced the apparent notion that these media conglomerates were showing the Majors Labels the middle finger. Supposedly surging forward without the labels consent and stepping ...

We All Make Music
As a band manager, one of my main goals is to help create a buzz for my artists. One of the key ways to do this is by receiving good press, and the most obvious way to get that press is to hire a publicist. But how do you find a publicist that is right You should be aware of what you’re hiring a publicist for, and be realistic about what you want him or her to do. If your ...

JazzSnap: Harry James (C. 1943)
Source:
JazzWax by Marc Myers
The saxophonist here is Corky Corcoran, lead tenor on Harry James' band recordings from 1941 through the 1970s. That's James on trumpet, of course, and James band stringman John deVoodgt to James' right. I'm guessing this is 1943 based on the cut of their suits and the fabulous 1943 newspaper photo of James on the right. The photo at the top is from Betty's collection of snapshots and stills sent along to me by her friend Chris. Betty has donated ...

"I'd love to work with Myspace again," concludes a wide ranging BusinessWeek interview withMySpace co-founder and former CEO Chis DeWolfe. But will the current CEO of gaming company MindJolt actually try to buy Myspace back? It's a confidential processbut it's the biggest property for sale at what, in this market, would be a somewhat reasonable price," DeWolfe admitted. What would it take to bring MySpace back to life? Myspace Page Views Drop Another 50% in 60 Days
Source:
HypeBot
Even as MySpace prepares to leave the unfriendly grasp of News Corp and into what will hopefully be the more attentive arms of a new buyer, their numbers continue to fall dramatically. In the two months ending in early April, daily U.S. visitors to MySpace fell 28%. Time on the site dropped 48% and page views slid by an amazing 50%. Somehow, however, the number of unique visitors to MySpace remained flat. Perhaps for a loyal few MySapce still matters. ...
