Source:
Gapplegate Music Review by Grego Edwards
Things have been happening for Cuong Vu since he moved out to Seattle. One of them is Agogic (T & C 001). Maestro Vu's trumpet locks in with Andrew D'Angelo's serpentine alto and bass clarinet, and they are held buoyant by the boldly blistering bass and drums of Luke Bergman and Evan Woodle, respectively. Add some smart avant-funk writing and some very cool interactions and soloing from the front line, mix that up with the boldly assertive, pin-incision precision of ...

If there's one question this industry can't reliably answer, it's 'who owns what?' And a close second, 'how do you locate these owners?' The website also offers the opportunity to text $10 to help save the places on the list. From the NHTP:

Time Warner's CEO: "Let's Cheer Up. This is Not the Music Business..."
Source:
Digital Music News
In case you were wondering, 'poster child' is officially stamped onto the forehead of the music industry. So much so that other declining industries make themselves feel better by comparing themselves to music. Let's cheer up," Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes told fellow executives at the NCTA Cable Show this week (as quoted by GigaOm). This is not the music industry, this is the cable industry." This would be an opportune moment to slip 'canary in thecoalmine' into the conversation, ...

Art Pepper and the Clarinet
Source:
JazzWax by Marc Myers
Art Pepper recorded on clarinet sporadically during his career. He doubled on the instrument on his first recording session with Stan Kenton in 1943, while in Charles Mingus' bebop band in 1949 and in Kenton's Innovations Orchestra in 1950. As Laurie Pepper notes below, his decision to perform on the instrument in small groups later often depended on whether the sound system allowed him to hear himself blowing. Recording in small groups, Pepper can be heard playing clarinet on Rose ...

This past weekend, the California Music Industry Summit took place at the Marriott Hotel in Oakland, California. One of the standout panels featured experienced music marketers sharing knowledge for a crowd of independent artists and indie music marketers. Some of the highlights: Michael Fiebach of Fame House asserts that while one doesn't necessarily have to be a fan of their client's music, it's hugely important for marketers to understand what their artists stand for and what their music represents in order ...
