Washington, D.C.--The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz will continue its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Department of State by presenting a 10-day jazz education and performance tour of China. This tour will mark the Institute's first visit to China and will introduce tens of thousands of young people and adults in China to jazz, America's greatest musical contribution to the world.

Herb Pomeroy (1930-2007) is regarded as one of the most influential jazz educators of the 20th century. He is best known for having taught the high-level arranging courses Line Writing, The Music of Duke Ellington and The Jazz Composer's Seminar at Berklee College of Music. Pomeroy also lead two student big bands, which performed at the Berklee Performance Center at the end of each semester. Medeski Martin & Wood will be holding their third annual camp this summer on the grounds of Full Moon Resort in the Catskill Mountains from August 1-6th, 2010.

John Medeski, Billy Martin and Chris Wood will personally be leading intensive workshops, master classes and ensembles. For five days, campers will be encouraged to improve listening skills, interact with musicians and approach music in a completely innovative way.
