Muhal Richard Abrams - Sounddance (Pi Recordings, 2011)

Source: Music and More by Tim Niland
June 2, 2011

Honored as a jazz master by generations of musicians, and co-founder of the influential AACM, pianist Muhal Richard Abrams met two distinguished yet completely unique colleagues for an improvised performance where they were truly walking the high-wire without a net, performing the improvisations live. It's almost like it's taken for granted that jazzers are not interested in having fun, ...

Source: Something Else!
June 2, 2011

By Tom Johnson I was a little disappointed with guitarist Mike Keneally's initial release of 2004, Dog. It seemed to be lacking a little something physical, some cohesive element, in the music, but where it worked it worked great. It was just too unbalanced by some out of place avant-garde-ish pieces that didn't really fit in on such an otherwise rockin' release. So when the announcement came that The Universe Will Provide, Keneally's seemingly long-in-production “orchestral" piece would follow shortly ...
