Chicago Sessions: It's all about jazz, man
Source:
Michael Ricci
Nick Eipers didn't go looking for jazz. Jazz found him. Working as a recording engineer and producer after graduating from Columbia College in 1994, the Brookfield resident manned the mixing boards for a variety of musicians, from classical ensembles to rock acts. The local jazz greats that he was recording and their struggles struck a chord, though. “I found myself working on great albums that weren't getting the recognition they deserved," remembers Eipers. Source:
Music and More by Tim Niland
Guitarist Peter Bernstein, organist Larry Goldings and drummer Bill Stewart have been playing together for many years, holding down a regular gig at the Smalls jazz club when their schedules allow. This is a nice example of their regular gig, beginning with “Chant" which shows the trio playing in a mellow laid back groove, with the organ bubbling and simmering like a thick stew. Drums and organ/guitar trade phrases and then Stewart takes over for a short drum solo before ...

Pat Martino - Undeniable (2011)
Source:
Something Else!
Pat Martino, along with George Benson, was the greatest jazz guitarist to spring from those righteous sounding organ trios of the 60s, and like Benson, Martino is still playing at a very, very high level. And, mixed in with some side excursions into other jazz forms, he's still playing that same brand of organ powered soul-jazz like he did back in his days with Jack McDuff and Willis Jackson. A decade ago he showed what he was capable of doing ...

Ray Charles - Singular Genius: The Complete ABC Singles (2011)
Source:
Something Else!
Ray Charles, sightless and orphaned by age 15, led a life that sounded like a blues song. But the range and scope of his talent could never be contained within one genre, no matter its lasting joys. A gifted performer on the piano, organ, clarinet and alto sax, Charles dabbled at first in Nat Cole-esque trio-jazz, then earned wide accolades while at Atlantic for blending in R&B and gospel influences—perhaps most memorably on his salacious rewrite of “This Little Girl ...
