Legendary free jazz drummer, Abbey Rader, is back with two new albums. Ritual is a burning trio set with bassist Kyle Motl and saxophonist Drew Ceccato. Phenobarbital Sessions is a deeply moving set of 16 improvised tracks recorded for a short film by Jorge Rubiera. Charles Rumback Releases His Fourth Album As A Leader - "Tag Book"

Source: Charles Rumback

Summer in Chicago began in 3/4 time. Charles Rumback, alongside comrades Jim Baker and John Tate, waltzed in June with Threes—an effortless debut culled from three nights on the burner at the artist-run venue on the forefront of new music, Constellation. The Chicago Reader took note of the trio’s improvisatory rapport stating “the cross talk is sublime and the refined melodic impulses gently gorgeous.” The rich fecundity of these three nights led to so much new growth that the trio realized there was another album inside ...

Lisa Hilton Sets Forth On A Journey Promoting Peace, Tranquility and Positive Energy with "Escapism" - Available December 1 on Ruby Slippers Productions

Lisa Hilton often settles in at her piano and riffs on everyone from Miles Davis and Horace Silver to The Black Keys and Green Day, until she can find peace within the notes, letting them fill the room and fall where they languish in this glow of calm with a touch of brooding blues. Then this past year, the world changed a bit and finding that calm seemed a little more elusive. “Everything is charged with politics, a large portion ...

The Hammond organ's steady rise in popularity during the 1950s had everything to do with economics and efficiency. Early in the decade, new organ models became increasingly compact and more affordable, allowing artists to transport them and clubs to purchase one and store it in a corner. Organists were especially profitable for smaller clubs, since the keyboard could be set to sound like a wide range of instruments. Instead of hiring a combo with a horn section, a club needed ...

Burrell returned to Van Gelder's studio in October 1964 to record five songs with a completely different group. Here again, a sizable number of takes were needed on most ...
