ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Awards were presented in 14 categories at the fifth JazzWeek Awards, held June 21 at the JazzWeek Summit at the Clarion Riverside Hotel in Rochester, N.Y. The JazzWeek Summit is a gathering of radio programmers, record labels and promoters, musicians, and others interested in jazz radio promotion and programming. Michele Rosewoman and Quintessence are again recipients of a CMA 2008 New Works: Creaton Presentation Grant. Ms. Rosewoman is being funded to write and present new music for an expanded version of the ensemble encouraging their current evolution as represented on their latest release, “The In Side Out" (Advance Dance Disques AD0353)

Oscar's Change Original Song Rules

The Academy Awards Alters Requirements for the Original Song Category.

In an effort to prevent a single musical from monopolizing the Original Song field at the Oscars, the Academy has changed the rules of the category. While movies can submit any number of songs they want, starting with the 2009 Oscars, only two songs can be nominated per film.
