Alto saxophonist and composer Miguel Zenon is one of twenty-five winners of 2008 John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation fellowships. The grants were announced today. Each of the awards is for $500,000 over five years, to be used in any way the recipient decides. Although not officially described as genius grants" by the MacArthur foundation, that is what the fellowships have come to be called.

Jonathan Russell, 13-year-old jazz violinist, has been named one of five finalist in 1010 WINS Tomorrow's Newsmaker contest. Jonathan's achievements that garnered the judges attention include an Ambassador's Award from the U.S. Embassy in Hungary, the release of two CD's and performances throughout the United States.
Most recently Jonathan was engaged to perform three nights with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on November 6th, 7th and 8th.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will pay tribute to the father of the electric guitar" this fall. Les Paul will be honored at the annual American Music Masters series, a weeklong event that begins Nov. 10, Rock Hall officials said Tuesday.
