Source:
Chris Rich

And what a season it is. July is a twofer with his usual Tuesday slot given to a solo. These can be all over the map and generally reflect his inspirations of the moment. Look for it on July 23rd at the ...

Unfortunately, Rollins' continuing health issues forced him to cancel the show here, along with the rest of his summer schedule. Fortunately, there are lots of other jazz and creative music events on tap ...

JazzWax by Marc Myers
The U.S. had Glenn Miller and Stan Kenton. The U.K. had Ted Heath. Born in 1902, the trombonist played in jazz bands from the 1920s through the mid-1940s, when he formed his own big band on D-Day. Inspired by Miller's Army Air Force Band, with its precision and dramatic moodiness, Heath grew in popularity after the war, performing every Sunday at London's Palladium. [Pictured above: Ted Heath in the late '40s] Then came Heath's 1956 tour of the U.S. that ...

Phil Dunlap Quintet to Debut Saturday, June 29 at Slam, with Nicholas Payton as Special Guest

St. Louis Jazz Notes by Dean Minderman
As director of education for Jazz St. Louis, Phil Dunlap certainly gets ample opportunities to use his piano chops during the regular working week. Now Dunlap (pictured, top left) is launching a new ...
