University of the Pacific’s Brubeck Institute this week announced its new Brubeck Institute Presents series and the fall schedule for its popular Take 5 Jazz at the Brew series and Take 5 Jam Sessions. Chris Brubeck, Peter Epstein, Steve Allee and Jamie Baum will each play Brubeck Institute Presents dates this fall, with Stefon Harris and Christian McBride already slated to perform in February and March. A contemporary of Dave and Iola Brubeck who gained his own success as the vice president of public relations for Pan American World Airways has given University of the Pacific a $500,000 gift that will enable talented musicians for generations to study at the prestigious Brubeck Institute. Iola Whitlock Brubeck, the widow and lifelong collaborator of jazz great Dave Brubeck, died March 12, 2014, at her home after a brave battle with cancer.
