Jazz Central's season finale to their Cultural Legacy Speakers' Series - “In Their Own Words"

SYRACUSE NY - The CNY Jazz Arts Foundation season finale to their Cultural Legacy Speakers' Series entitled “In Their Own Words" is scheduled for Sunday, April 23, 2006, 5pm, Jazz Central, 441 East Washington Street, Syracuse, NY. This free video and lecture presentation will be hosted by Monk Rowe, Jazz Archive Director, Hamilton College. This event theme, “On Improvisation," delves into the thought process behind the solo flights of major voices in the jazz world. Guests will be treated to an evening of Jazz Greats on video telling their stories, with accompanying narration, commentary and discussion with Mr. Rowe. Artists like Christian McBride, Ernie Watts, Clark Terry, Bill Charlap, Jon Hendricks, Joe Wilder, Lois Bellson and others will speak about the sounds, artists and influences that inspired them to play and compose.

“'In Their Own Words' offers unique and rare presentations as powerful examples of American cultural history," according to Larry Luttinger, CNYJAF Executive Director. “The Hamilton Jazz Archive is the most complete, current and comprehensive in the nation, making these shows as vital, new and important as any Ken Burns documentary - and the public can see them here, live, in Syracuse. The series is presented free of charge for its first season, with voluntary contributions accepted."
