On Friday, July 9th, 2004 and Saturday, July 10th, 2004 the Hank Johnson Trio made an appearance at the famous Lenox Lounge Jazz Club in Harlem. There were three sets (shows) per night, and each show was filled to capacity with a full house. It was so quiet in the place you could hear a pin drop as Hank did his thing..........play some piano! Reminisant of the Art Tatum days and influenced by Oscar Peterson a musical statement was made redefining jazz piano! The audience consisted of tourists, and jazz lovers and people who appreciate the music. The beautiful Yahama grand piano came to life, tuned 440 and properly regulated and articulated by one of the greatest less known jazz pianists Hank Johnson. While not a household name yet, the musical message was sent by a wonderful 3 sets each night. On each night different tunes were played the only repeat tune was the famous Take The A Train", and closing tune Hymn to Freedom", which clearly defined Hank's main purpose, and that was to make some great music. The Lenox Lounge is the place where Jazz greets New York!. -30-
