Each piece carries the presence of people and places that helped shape who I’ve become.
Michael McClintock
Originally from Neosho, Missouri, McClintock now splits his time between Paris, Havana, and Kansas City—each place contributing to his globally informed sound. He is the founder of Cubanisms, a Latin jazz fusion ensemble rooted in rhythms from Brazil to Cuba, blending traditional and Afro-Cuban grooves with contemporary jazz sensibilities. His past work also includes long-standing collaborations with Ensemble Iberica, a group dedicated to music from the Iberian Peninsula, and the Americana-rooted Slim Hanson & the Poor Choices, showcasing his stylistic versatility across genres.
Released on April 7, 2025, Here and There is McClintock’s debut full-length album of all-original compositions. Spanning twelve tracks written and recorded in the United States, Cuba, and France, the album reflects the musical and emotional landscape of a life lived across cultures. “Each piece,” he shares, “carries the presence of people and places that helped shape who I’ve become.”
More than a collection of songs, Here and There is a genre-blending journey shaped by the rich traditions of classical, jazz, Cuban, and Brazilian music. It invites listeners into a vibrant sonic world brought to life through McClintock’s melodic clarity, harmonic depth, and intuitive sense of rhythm and space.
The album showcases a wide expressive range using four distinct guitars, each chosen for its unique tone and character. The nylon-string guitar featured on the cover appears on every track, anchoring the album’s voice. Additional textures come from steel-string acoustic, electric guitar, and the Cuban Tres—an instrument central to McClintock’s musical identity. His innovative approach to the Tres—especially recognized in Cuba—bridges tradition and invention in meaningful and beautiful ways.
Michael McClintock shares his love for music with a unique voice that shines through every instrument he touches. His expressive melodies and creative spirit have earned him heartfelt recognition across cultures and borders, making Here and There a deeply personal yet universally resonant debut.
