Grady Nichols, Zac Maloy and David John received a nomination from the grassroots music organization Just Plain Folks for their song, Bellisimo."
Recorded by Nichols for his Take Me With You project, Bellissimo" was nominated in the Smooth Jazz Song category. The 2009 Just Plain Folks Awards is billed as the Worlds Largest Music Awards. They received a record setting 42,000 albums and over a half million songs from 163 countries around the world for consideration. As their staff and team of volunteers filtered the music down to both song and album nominees in 95 genres of music, their criteria was answering the simple question: Does the music move you?
Upon hearing the nomination, Nichols commented: I have been working diligently these past few years to develop my songwriting skills, so it is rewarding to receive this recognition. I was fortunate to write with Zac Maloy as he has been writing with Chris Daughtry, David Cook, Carrie Underwood and some of the top artists on the music scene today." Maloy added: Working with Grady on this project expanded my musical boundaries. I've worked in a lot of different genres, but mainly focused on rock. It is nice to be recognized in another format."
Organization founder Brian Austin Whitney Whitney explains the unique criteria for determining their nominees: When I went to write the instructions for our first awards process back in 1998, it occurred to me that people often use strict and rigid measuring sticks to judge music. That seemed unnatural to me. People listen to and love music that moves them. It doesn't matter if it was recorded by a world class superstar in a million dollar studio or by an unknown songwriter with a laptop and a microphone in their bedroom. There are no actual rules for why music moves people and you can't build a formula around it though industry always tries. It either moves people or it doesn't.
The 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards show will take place in Nashville, TN on August 29th, 2009 at the Wildhorse Saloon. Bellissimo" was the first single released from Nichols Take Me With You project.
